philco 52-542 switch capacitor

Hi Folks:
I am working on the above table radio. I am stuck on one part- a capacitor. After finishing recapping the radio, I found that I have a wire going no hardb bare wire (similar to a capacitor end)sticking out from the middle prong on the on-off switch. The schematics show one .06 capacitor that runs from the first prong on the on-off switch to the first pin of the 35L6. That cap is in place.
But I cannot figure out what was on the second prong????? The tubes were tested and one was replaced (35z5). When the radio warms up, I receive a loud buzzing/hum sound. The sound remains at the same level regardless of the volume adjustment.
HELP!
Thanks!

Hi Buddy

Have you replace electrolytic filter caps? In your radio it's C9A, B & C (one unit with 4 wires) (30, 25 & 20 mfd @ 150 volts). 33 & 22 mfd @ 160 volts are modern values (use individual caps). With these caps being bad you will have hum.

Not sure what the wire is off your switch? Maybe someone replaced a component before and left the wire? Information on Philco 52-542 can be found here:
