Full Wave AM Detectors

Have any of you out there experimented around with full wave detectors? I was repairing an old Crosley set today which had a bad second I.F. transformer. I pulled out a NOS I.F. from my stock drawer and noticed that its secondary had BOTH green and a green/blk wire and remembered that it is actually a center tapped secondary. Since there is a duo-diode set of plates in the audio tube this could easily be connected as a full wave detector. We all know the advantages of full wave rectification in power supply circuits --how about the detector?

Hello Tom
This might not be exactly an answer to your question, but here it goes anyway.I once had problems with a TRIO 9R59DS(Japanese valve short wave receiver)that had high distortion on strong signals, but sounded OK when turning down the RF gain about half.I checked everything and it seemed OK,so I started experimenting with a smaller cap going from the last IF transf to the two diodes(yes,a full wave diode det)to bring down the voltage, which I measured around 8 volts! If my memory serves me right I had to use a cap only 1/4 of the original value! Now it sounded much better-still a trace of dist on strong signals, but acceptable.
