I have this old echophone short wave radio and when it turns on all that can be heard is a loud vibrating hum from the speaker? what is wrong with it? i hooked up another speaker to it thinking that was the problem but it still does the same thing? I'm new to radios and don't know what to look for? i have a tube checker and i checked out all of the tubes and they checked out ok. there is lots and lots of dust inside though, could this be a problem?

Hi Mike

Electrolytic Filter Caps are most likely bad. They dry out over time and cause hum. Replacements are available from AES, tubesandmore.com , and others.
