ge radio model E 61transformer bad

Hello, working on the wifes radio and got it to work after I replaced the 6h6 tube, but I heard that all too familiar crackling noise the transformer makes. I pulled the rectifier tube(5w4) and it still crackles. I think that means I get to replace the transformer in this one just like my detrola 106. Tubes are 6a8, 6k7, 6h6, 6f5, 6f6, 5w4. If I remember correctly, getting a sutible replacement transformer consists of calculating all of the tubes plate currents, and heater voltage, and total voltage minus 100 volts for speaker field

Just thought I would ask the question better,.. Sean

Hi Sean

You are corrent. You need a 6.3 volt winding of 1.9 amps. A little more if your radio has dial lamps. (2.5 amps is a standard rating) For the 5W4 5 volts @ 1.5 amps is needed. (5 volts @ 2 amps is standard)

For a high voltage winding a lot depends on the circuit. Hundred volt drop is reasonable if the radio has a field coil on the speaker. I would look for something around 300-0-300 @ 70 ma. Could get away using a 50 ma since tubes won't be drawing max rated current.
