Crosley D-25; clock running at 50Hz
3/17/2004 2:42:15 PMmgarnelo
As part of the restoring process of the Crosley, I took completely apart the clock, clean it and re-assemble it, just to see to my horror, when checking it, that it takes to the seconds hand 72 seconds to complete a minute!
Obviously, the radio is not intended to work with the 50 Hz supply of Spain. Anyone knows a fix for this?
Is there a replacement for the motor for overseas exports?

Hello,
As you have discovered, the clock motor is designed to operate on 60 Hz as supplied here in the USA, and will run slow on your 50 Hz in Spain. Similar problems are encountered with record players, on these proper speed can sometimes be restored with mechanical alterations but this is not practical with a clock. (Unless you have a friend who is a clockmaker!)

Crosley probably made an export version of the D-25 which was equipped with a 50 Hz motor, but I have no idea where you would find one. The easiest and least-expensive solution might be to use a 12v DC power supply, then a 12v to 120v 60 Hz inverter to power your Crosley. Such inverters are sold here in the USA to operate 120v/60 Hz appliances from automobile and truck batteries.
