Crosley 515 problem
3/16/2004 1:42:25 PMJason
I still cant get my 515 to work. I replaced all the caps in it and it still does the same thing it did before. It comes on and all the tubes light up. There is some noise from the speaker but no stations and the volume has no control over the noise. My next guess might be the speaker but I am not sure. Any more help would be great.

Hi Jason

Measure voltages if you have a meter? Pin #2 of all tubes should be positive. Pin #3 on 6B5 and 6D6's will also be positive.

Check continuity of coils, especially 27Y in the schematic. Sometimes these coils open.

Speakers aren't usually a problem if you can hear noise. Just probing pin #4 on your 6B5 should make some noise in the speaker.

Volume control won't have an effect unless the first 6D6 stage is operating.

Thanks Norm,
I do have a meter, just want to make sure I do it right. Do I check the voltage with the radio on and the tubes removed or installed the manual is not clear on that. Also my meter is a Flute 77 DVOM. Will that work instead of a vaccum tube volt meter.
Thanks Jason

Hi Jason

When checking voltage all tubes need to be in the radio with power on.

For continuity testing unplug your radio. Your meter has a battery which is used for this test. Try reading a couple resistors for test.

Your Fluke will do the job.
