Hello Norm,
I was reading your piece on painting the AK metal coffins (AK Homepage), and have a dumb question: how do you apply that latex, lamp black, water mixture? Sounds almost like a wiping stain. Or do you spray? I am hoping you wipe it on, because I don't have spray capability here (yet). Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim

You can wipe it on.. Even using a brush will work. Since the radio has krinkle finish brush strokes won't show. Once you coat it with Crystal Clear Krylon, or similar, your radio will look like new.

Norm,
OK, Norm. I am going to try and gather up the stuff this week. I'll let you know it goes. Thanks for the help.

Wished I had seen Norm's article before I started to work on my AK 55. I wanted to keep it original, but thought the finish was too far gone (rust, etc.) I went ahead and sanded, primed and painted it gun-metal gray (followed by several coats of clear-coat). It's not original, but it sure is pretty.

Regards,
Jeff
