Hi Guys,
It's been a while since I posted, but I am on a new project. I noticed a post on the Radiola 18. I too am interested in adding one to my collection. I am not familiar with the the tubes UX226, UX227, UX280, etc... what is the UX designation? Are those just 226, 227, 280 tubes? I did not see any substitutions listed in my tube book or here. Anybody heard of any? Know of any good sources for those besides, A.E.S.? Thanks.

Kevin

Hi Kevin

UX226 is RCA's number for a 26 tube. UX226 was on older globe shaped tubes. When the shape was changed to "ST" the prefix dropped.

U was RCA, Cunningham used C. There are other letters. The "X" indicates tube with 4 pins. The "2" was used by RCA. Cunningham had a "3", Deforest "4".

The 27 should be UY. "Y" meant a 5 pin tube.

:Hi Norm:
Thanks for the info. I suspected that when I saw a radiola 18 advertised with the 26 and 80 tubes listed, but the Rider's Diagram showed the original tube designations,so I was not sure. That info will be helpful in the future. I knew I could count on you guys! This site is one of the best resources on the net, and all of you have tremendous knowledge to share. Thanks for the help.

Kevin
