Sparton Radio Model 5A116
2/6/2004 4:10:46 PMJoe Chasteen
Hello, my name is Joe Chasteen. I came across your forum during a web search. Many years ago, I was given a radio that I used to listen to baseball games on with my uncle. Recently, I decided to get it repaired, but can't find anyone who can do it. I also wonder about its age and value, although I'm not looking to sell it. Can anyone help me with any details about this model (small, tabletop, 2 knobs, tubes, "AC DC Receiver Model 5A116, Sparton from Jackson, Michigan"). Also, are there any members located near me? I live in Orlando, Florida.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe,
Your Sparton is a 1947 model, a five-tube AC/DC receiver. Properly serviced, it should perform very well for you for many years to come. "Collector's Guide to Antique Radios, 5th Edition" lists a value of $45-$50. This is only a guideline, actual value will vary with condition, how and where it is sold, etc. Your idea of contacting a local radio club is a good one, someone there can probably repair it for you or direct you to someone who will. There are several clubs in Florida, for a list check out the Antique Radio Classified website www.antiqueradio.com and click on "Radio Club List".

Good luck, and if we can help in any way let us know.
