I was given this radio from my mother. I would like to restore it and keep it in the family. I plugged it in let it warm up and tried to tune in a station. It picked up a station but the signal was very weak. Any information or help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Scott,
I believe it's a Canadian set from the early 50's. Maybe someone here can provide more info, but from the tube lineup (do a google search and you will find a photo), it probably has a power transformer in it (not all old radios do). So, I would not turn it on and try to listen to it any more until you at least replace all the tubular paper capacitors in the set, plus the power supply electrolytic capacitors. Otherwise, you could kill the expensive power transormer. There is a very good chance this simple fix will have the thing sounding like brand new. You can do it yourself...just post on here again, and people will help. Or you can find an old radio hobbyist in your area to do it for you (by posting again).

Your radio is a 1948-49 model available as a console or a table top. Two pages of information will be emailed to you. Other than the comments already posted your radio should have both an internal loop antenna and a terminal for an external antenna. You may need to use the external antenna for the short wave bands.
