:Hello,
: I've got a problem I can't solve. I'm wanting to replace all the paper caps in my radio chassis, but can't find a schematic for it anywhere and the numbers on the caps (Solar Sealdtite paper caps) don't make any sense to me. The radio is a Freshman Masterpiece BRL 578 (578 is blacked out from factory and 62 spl is handwritten in) Series A, Chassis #5H148341A, 5 tubes, #80, #42,, #6B7, #6A7, & #6D6. Here's what I got for caps: two 100uf 20 volt (that's what they're marked/ink stamped and they're about an inch long), one 100uf 11 volt (that's what's ink stamped on this.....about 1" long x 5/16" around), one 100uf 19 volt (same size as 20 volt), one .1uf ? volt(2" x 1/2"), one 1.18uf (I'm guessing at this one...the stamping was smeared) ? volt (same size as the .1 cap), and two can caps ....one is 8uf 450 volt and the other is the same size and looks as if it's a different number, but it's unreadable.
: All I want is to get this thing going. Do these paper caps seem to be marked right? Are there oversized/higher uf and voltage value caps that I can put in here to get this thing capped out? Can anyone help me or direct me to someone who can? I'd appreciate any help I can get since I can't locate the schematics. Thank you very much (in advance).
: Regards, Larry DeWit
John,
Thank you very much! That was it! The schematic's cap values made sense & the ones in the chassis were totally confusing. Now I can get this baby going. I'm glad there are people out there like you who are familiar enough with these radios and are willing to help amateurs like me get them going.
This particular radio has been in my family for a long time. Possibly since it was new, so i'm looking forward to putting it to practical use once again. I listen to alot of AM talk radio, so it will really get used.
Regards, Larry DeWitt
John had mentioned Belmont. Belmont Model 578 schematic is available. It matches your tube types.
