STROMBERG CARLSON 228 H or HB
1/14/2004 1:53:13 PMDIMITRIS
I have just finished the restoration of a Stromberg Carson 228 Radio. It is only chassi, no wooden housing as I found it eight months ago, at a road corner (gold shines everywhere)inside a destroyd newer housing (made about 1970 ) with place (but missing) for "turntable".Now it is at working condition with a plexiglas housing that makes it look like a new cut Diamond .As for the Quality of the sound ; it's just Magic.
I like to know what makes the diference of model 228 H and 228 HB as it was impossible to find this info up today.
Also if someone out ther knows the way to find the year of production of this radio it would be great.
PS. chassis PC no 27832,Speaker P 27557

Hi

Stromberg Carlson 228 is a 1937 model. H indicated a table model. They also made a "L" which was console. Does your radio have short wave? Not sure what the "B" means but might stand for broadcast band only?

Hello Norm

Thanks for your reply. It is a good possibility that B stands for Broadcast band only type. You probaly know that exept 228L ,there is also 228LB type,so I think this sugestion stands strong enough. This radio has three bands ; Broadcast-Police-Shortwave.So it is possibly a 228 HB type.
It also has an output and a two possitions selestor switch for Phono(graph)-Radio, at the back.
