I AM DESERATELY SEARCHING FOR AN OLD TRANSISTOR RADIO MADE PROBABLE IN THE 1950s. IT WAS MADE IN JAPAN THAT ALL I KNOW... IT WAS ABOUT 3 INCHES LONG, SHAPED LIKE A ROCKET SHIP. IT HADE 2 WIRES COMMING OUT OF IT. ONE WAS AN EAR PHONE THE OTHER HADE AN ALIGATOR CLIP ON IT SO YOU CAN ATTACH IT TO A FENCE, RADIATOR, OR ANYTHING METAL TO GET POWER. THERE WERE NO BATTERIES, YOU WOULD JUST CLIP IT AND MOVE IT AROUND UNTIL YOU GOT A SIGNAL. CAN YOU HELP ME IN ANYWAY WITH A NAME OR WHERE I CAN PURCHASE IT AT....MY FATHER WAS IN AN ORPHANAGE AND HE ALWAYS WANTED IT FOR CHRISTMAS BUT NEVER GOT IT...IT WOULD BE A GREAT SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK U FOR YOUR TIME,
JERRY D.

What you are referring to was a "Crystal Radio", which featured space-age styling, NO transistors and a crystal earphone. Best bet for finding one is on eBay, although an Internet search will probably provide a source for new units. Good luck !

Jerry, I have one of the newly made units. They can be found in many of your better stocked toy stores. My daughter gave me one for Christmas last year. Be advised that judging by my set, these modern versions don't seem to be as sensitive as the old types. I don't get as good results with a 300 foot outdoor antenna, as I did just clipping the antenna lead to my beside lamp as a kid. My guess is the new ones are using a more modern type of crytal detector (diode)with less "output". I plan on replacing the diode in mine with an old fashioned style germanium diode as they are still available from suppliers. Good Luck,
Jim
