This is an AC/DC radio. In most a #47 pilot light is part of the circuit. Without it your 35Z5 filament is being stressed. Shouldn't effect radio operation but in time will damage the 35Z5 tube.
Some radios used a larger, night light, for lamp. In these radios the light isn't necessary for radio operation.

:Greetings:
:I am working on the above radio which was originally sitting in a barn for many years. The capacitors have been replaced as well as four of five tubes. Reception goes from good to poor. The pilot lamp was too damaged when I received the radio and, so, did not replace the pilot light in the restoration. Could the lack of a pilto light on this model be affecting the good-bad reception I am receiving? Could the lack of a pilto lamp on this model be damaging the replacement tubes I have installed?
:Thank you

Lack of pilot light won't cause that problem.
Did you replace the cap going to pin #5 of your 50L6? If this one has any leakage you 50L6 will draw too much current and may end up with grid leakage. Be sure the resistor from pin #5 of your 50L6 to B- isn't high in value. Shouldn't be over 500K.

:Norm,
:Thanks for your prompt replay. I just checked a NOS 50L6 that I had installed in the radio. Before installing I always check a new tube. There was no GRID Leakage. The radio worked well. Now the reception is poor. I rechecked the 50L6 and find it indicates BAD for grid leakage. Could it be the lack of the pilot lamp?
:Thanks
