Can I send my vocal condeser mic preamp to some of you here to critique?
I am looking for critisism and improvments for this idea.. I have no plate resistors except for the EF 86 is this OK? What about the filtering?..http://www.hartal.co.nz/preamp.tif

If you need me to email clearer copy just say..

Hi,
Ifyou email a hi resolution image, jsut convert it to a JPEG, it will be a much smaller fine with comparable resolution.

But that aside, it looks like a decent starting point. You can tweak the cathode resistor and bias values a bit if gain does not seem to be adequate. Filtering should be adequate, suspect a heater short if one tube shows any degree of hum while the others do not. Ultimately it is easy enough to increase the value of the capacitors if hum is present. Nothing will be harmed by the way it is presently if filtering seems inadequate.

With regard to the EF86, you might consider supplying G2 from the B+ without a connection to the plate (remove the cap)- but this will require a different value in the resistor. But try it as it is first, it may work fine, or there is a problem other than gain it may have some tendency to oscillate (but that was how some guitar effects were born).

For additional ideas, or for some biasing info, you can check here too:
