AR-812 Restoration
7/27/2003 11:21:41 PMAl Franceschino
Hello folks I am restoring an 812 and have managed to get through the wax in the catacomb only to discover an open primary on the last audio transformer. I have another 812 and it's primary shows about 900 ohms with a 5600 ohm secondary. Any ideas on a replacement or rewinding? Rewinding this looks very complicated due to the form the 2 transformers windings are on. Also the frame of the transformer does not appear to come apart and it is rivited to frame. Anybody out there ever done this before? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, Al

Hi Al

You can replace the audio interstage transformer with a Stancor A-53C. AES sells it as P-T156. Play Things Of Past also sells this part. Usually their prices are lower. It's not DC resistance that's important, rather impedance. A replacement will have different resistance readings.

Might want to replace both transformers? They can be mounted one above the other.

Hi Norm , thanks for the feedback! Can you tell me what approximations you used if any to come up with this transformer in terms of primary and secondary impedance? Might be good to know for the next 812 I still need to work on.

Regards,
Al
