:Hello, I had my radio repaired by a local man who has since become ill an no longer repairs them. It worked right after I installed in the car but then it started cutting out on the reception and finally no reception and just a humming sound. When you first turn it on and it warms up you might get a station for about 5 seconds and then just hums again. Do you know what my proble is? I have another old radio with all the tubes in it except the vibrator. Could it be a tube?

Checking the antenna is also a good idea, with the radio on, shake the mast back and forth- watch the base of the antenna mount to see if it moves at all, it may be loose too.
:The humming sound is most likely the vibrator running, which is a good sign that it's getting power. Problem could be a tube, easy to swap with other set, just make sure you verify that the tube numbers are correct as you swap them one at a time. Swap them back if it doesn't fix the problem since it once played with the tubes you have in it. Also you need to check out the antenna, it could be bad and not receiving any signal.
