6BA6 subs...

Dear forum members:

Is a 6AU6 (SHARP CUTOFF RF PENTODE) a usable
substitution for a 6BA6 (REMOTE CUTOFF PENTODE) tube?
They are listed as substitutions on the NA tube guide,
but aren't are other guides. Both use the same heater
volatage and current and have the same capacitance
between grid and cathode, anode and cathode,
and grid and anode.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sincerely,

Tony M

Hi Tony

The 6AU6 will replace the 6BA6 in a lot of circuits. When used in an IF stage with AVC it can go into cutoff and distort on strong signals. The 6AU6 grid #1 cutoff is around -5 volts while the 6BA6 takes -20 volts or greater.
