Weston D. C. Ammeter, Model 45

I have just became the owner of a Weston D. C. Ammeter, Model 45. This is the meter only. The original test leads and the External Shunts are no with the meter. Does anyone know of a source for the leads and shunts. Any inquiry is welcome.

Hi,
I am only guessing at the vintage of yours based on the vintage of a Weston 280 that I have, and your only source for original/correct vintage shunts and related are going to be antique shops, and auctions. Most leads will be in poor condition unless they happened to see correct long term storage.

If you are only looking for something for servicability, try Edmunds Scientific, or other scientific apparatus supply company.

Model 45 ammeters are 50 millivolts full scale, and will work with any external shunt since shunts are (almost) always 50 mV. Shunts are very cheap when you find them, since there's not much demand for large DC ammeters, but exactly where to look, I wouldn't know. I recall Fair Radio Sales used to stock one or two sizes. They're probably the sort of thing that would show up on ebay, since old physics/EE labs were full of them.

Shunts have four terminals, two for the meter and two heavy ones for the external circuit. The type of wire used makes no difference at all, since very little current actually flows through the meter. You could probably find some reading material by searching under "Kelvin" shunt or similar terms.
