Hi,
One thing that is sometimes missed in the instruction manual for most of the UPS' that I have encoutnered- The UPS is shipped with at least one lead to the battery disconnected.

Open the bottom panel, attach the lead, and plug unit for about an hour to charge battery. Plug in a test load and unplug the UPS without shutting it off, it should work fine.

Otherwise, your most likely source for the skematic would be Sams, www.samswebsite.com
