I just purchased this console at a garage sale. The set lights up but no sound. It is in excellent original condition.. I looked up the sets chassis# and came up with the MFG as U.S. Radio and Television or Apex Electric or Apex Radio and TV Corp.Does anyone know the history of this piece I've got.?

Hi,
There is a "46" under "United Television", the schematic is here:

If this looks like the correct tube layout, this is probably your schematic and model.

FIrst step is to check the tubes, and replace filter capacitors. The other caps of paper and foil construction should be checked, and probably replaced also.

This indeed is a APEX model #46 according to Riders It was manfactured by United Radio and Television Marion Indiana according to a plate under the chassis.I What year is it? I cant read the details on the schematic due to the poor scan quality Is there another source for the schematic..The chassis is relatively clean and untouched. It does have a stamp on the back from some repair shop in Detroit and also there is a sales sticker inside the cabinet from the Music Store @ JL Hudsons..Detroit Mi..:

Hi,
For a date of manufacture, probably 1929 or 1930.

There really is not a lot of detail that you are missing, but the filter caps from left to right are: 1.0mfd, 1.5mfd, 1.0mfd, and 2.0mfd. The choke bypass is 0.1mfd.
.02 is the value for the audio interstage, and the four that tie to ground (three probably inside of can) all in line with the pilot lamp, 0.1mfd, 10mfd, .04mfd and .04 mfd.

Digikey sells replacements that will work rather inexpensively, and they have an online catalog too- www.digikey.com

Other than the one resistor off of the center tap of the filament windings for the 45's, I would not worry too much about the other resistors unless performance was poor to bad of the radio. The resistor in question looks to be 1800 ohms, and should be wirewound type, or a large composition type.
