I replaced/connected the new caps by cutting the old ones near the cap body and then connecting to the original leads. Thus, I (think) avoided connecting to the wrong tube pin. Checked all solder joints, and they are OK. Checked actual connections vs. schematic, and they are OK, except for C7 (if you have the schematic). C7 runs from pin 6 of RF Amp (6BJ6) to ground, according to schematic. Actual wiring seems different. Could this be the problem? Bob

Hi Bob

Pin #6 is screen grid of a 6BA6. It will need a bypass cap to ground. Usually .047 mfd will be ok.

Hi Bob,
Philco originally used a .05mfd cap there, which confirms what Norm has already told you. Note that this same cap also bypasses pin #6 of the 12BE6 converter to ground. And the screens of both the 6BJ6 RF amp and the 12BE6 converter are also connected via a 10K resistor to B+. According to the Philco Service data, you ought to be seeing about 50v at pin #6 of both tubes.
