I have recently purchased a Zenith Royal 20 radio, it is in mint condition but it takes a wierd type battery, the print is hard to read but I think it says a Mercury battery type Z640, does any one know where i could get this type of battery? or what voltage it is? Thanks, Ralph Schneider.

Hi,
Mercury batteries for the most part have gone away for environmental reasons, and not very many of them had an equivalent in a conventional cell.

My reference does not list any application coverage for the Royal 20, but based upon some of the comparative numberings, The Z640 should be same as an Eveready E640, which is a 1.4 volt cell. The dimensions should be 5/8 inch diameter by .44 inch tall.

There should be camera cell that will fit, otherwise there are some NiCad/NimH cells that could be close.

Interstate Batteries, Batteries Plus, and a few other places- most likely pro camera shops in some instances.
