radiotrope power supply caps replaced....too much voltage now

Hello, I finished recapping this us radio model 80 or 90 power supply. Now the radio(with the philco speaker from ptop) has 210volts on the 71a plates..Isnt that a little too much? Going to the output transformer and modern speaker would eliminate the field coil........I think I need it now just for voltage reduction!

Hello, just a note. I measured this from chassis ground or pin 10 on the supply.

Voltage seems reasonable. You will find the filament above ground. Actual voltage seen by your 71A's is between filament & plate. Probably closer to 170-180 volts?

Hello, well actually yes 182volts

Hello, I tested the voltage in the "hi" position at 182volts and 157 volts in the low position. Question is when is the voltage too much? Or would I know when its too much?.....maximum smoke? The radio really sounds good now, other than an occasional motorboating in the hi position. Not sure what else to do about the motorboating since all of the caps have been replaced.

Operate your radio in the low position. The position that gives higher voltage is for areas with low line voltage. Line voltage now is much higher than when these radios were made.

A 71A is spec'd to operate at 180 volts from filament to plate. Your voltage is ok.
