radiotrope.....adjusting the dial ...dial freq reads less than freq recieved
6/1/2003 8:57:38 PMsean
Hello, I need to adjust the dial freq to read correctlly. How do I do this. It must be a trimmer cap out of adj, but which one? In a superhet, dont you adjust the local osc?...this one is a neutrodyne. It has 3 stages of tuning condensers on one side of it and on the other side of the same shaft on the other side of the drum dial is the 4th stage of condenser. There are about 5 trimmer caps

Hello, I wouldnt know how to align this set at all, being that I have never worked on a neutrodyne set

Hi Sean

You can adjust trimmers but that might not be too effective? Probably better to realign the dial marking in relation to your tuner. Most of these radios have dial marking 0-100 anyway. If that's the case it doesn't matter.

Hello, this radio has the actual dial frequencies on the left side of the dial and meters(I think its meters because it is abbreviated....met.) on the right side. By the way how much would this thing be worth. It has the side doors that slide closed to cover radio and knobs and speaker

Hello, would this be considered one of the high end sets of that day?

Probably would have been high end with push-pull output and sliding doors to cover the dial. Majestic was high end also. Compare prices with Majestic 90.

The real value of your radio is what a person is willing to pay. You might get $100. Some don't buy consoles due to their large size.

Hello, would I notice anything if I were to find a speaker with a 1k ohm field coil. The radio plays good, but distorts at high volume. not sure what that could be or is that typical of this era radio. Would reduced b+ cause this?

Hello, I also thought about replacing audio tubes, but dont yet have a spare 71a

What voltage do you have on your 71A's? Plate, pin #2, should be 180 volts above filament pin #1. Grid, pin #3, should be -40 volts when measured from filament, pin #1.

These are ideal voltages. If you find plate to filament higher with grid to filament lower (more like -20 volts) 71A's are weak. If you find this condition there will be distortion.

Wouldn't worry about using a lower field resistance unless plate voltage is much less than 180.
