Zenith y600 Transoceanic ballast tube

Hello all,
Was wondering if anyone knows what value resistor and wattage I could use to replace the 50A1 ballast tube used in the Zenith Y600 Transoceanic? 28 dollars each is quite high! Thanks for any help.

Hi Dean

AES, tubesandmore.com has a solid state replacement for $16.90. Still high but not as bad.

The 50A1 acts as a current regulator rather than just resistor. It could be replaced by a resistor. Current of 50 ma is drawn by filaments of your tubes. Most radios have around 2200 ohms in series with rectifier and tube filaments. Believe Zenith has a resistor in addition to the 50A1. Just make total resistance around 2200 and you will be ok.
