I have a 46-480 that works, it was owned by my grandmother, with the help of a friend we put to work the FM part, the AM, and SW has always been running. The FM runs, but drifts, I have not been able to find a schematic to try to improve the RF performance.
I beleive the FM and AM are different. Maybe you should first check the audio amplifier from the Volume Control.
This radio uses the speaker as a filter for the power supply.

: I have been lurking around this news group for a while. I have a tendency
: to latch on to anything that is old, furniture, record players, radios, etc.
: I have had in my possession for the last 15 years a Philco Model 46-480
: radio (floor model) which had been my father-in-laws. When I received it one
: tube was dead that I have since replaced but to no avail the radio still
: wouldn’t work. The radio was my father-in -laws and that it is in showroom
: condition (not a mark on it ,so help me God) I would like to get it up and
: running, being in a small remote community I have very little access to
: technical advice. So if any of you good people have any advice or assistance
: as to what may be the problem and how to rectify it please let me know. All
: tubes light up but no sound what so ever.
: THANKS IN ADVANCE
