It would take a short between grid & plate of a 71A to put current through an audio interstage transformer. You could limit current to your 71A tube. Using a fuse rated .05 amps will work. Fuses with this ratings cost a couple dollars.
Most audio interstage transformers open due to corrosion. Unwinding a transformer often shows a green spot of corrosion.

:Hello, I have learned why these audio interstage transformers go bad. 71A tubes can short causing excessive current drawn across these transformers. Is there any way a fuse or led or other item can be used to prevent the tubes from destroying these transformers?

You are taking a chance with used audio interstage transformers. P-T156 from AES is new. Play Things Of Past also sells similar new transformers.
I wouldn't buy used Atwater Kent audio interstage transformers. Even if they have continuity often are noisy in the circuit.

:: hello was it a good idea to buy used transformers if they corrode
