Airline Model 14BR-730A / BRC 62 730A
2/23/2003 1:40:44 AMGary
I am currently restoring a Wards Airline radio. The radio was found in a wood shed at a house my parents bought in Oregon in 1994. It looks identical to a photo from another web-site labeled "04BR-730A". This radio has all original parts in very good condition. However, the Model number on the paper nameplate distinctly says "14BR-730A". Also another number of "BRC 62 730A".

Can you help to identify the vintage, any history, and where manuals, schematics, etc are available? I am an electrical engineer with a serious hobby of woodworking & antique restoration. This project is a match made from heaven . . . .

I would very much like to hear the sound from this radio (tuned to a classic 1940's station). Thanks in advance for you support.

Hi Gary

14BR-730A would be a good model number. The first two digits reversed is year, 1941. Probably the same as 04RR-730A, 1940 radio.

Schematics are available for Airline radios but didn't see 730 listed. It may be on a page with another model number? Listing at address below.

Hi Gary,
I have an Airline 14BR-729A from 1941, it is identical to the 04BR-729A from 1940. The same schematic also applies to your model 04BR-730A. The schematic and parts list is at Riders Mont.Ward page 12-41. Page 12-42 contains the alignment procedure and info on chassis removal, pushbutton tuning, etc.

Thanks Norm & Poston.
Your input is invaluable.
The Airline model I have looks exactly like the model at http://archives.radioattic.com/images/a/Airline_04BR-730A_Bachleda.jpg.

Poston, not sure what I'm doing wrong but I can't seem to 'choose' Riders pages 12-41 & 42 from NostalgiaAir's website. I've tried the 'Manual' and the 'Schematic' sections, using both Airline and Belmont Radio Corp model numbers. Did retrieve the 04BR-730A schematic, which as you thought, appears identical to the 14BR-730A chassis. Can't seem to find links to the alignment or tuning instructions. WRT to the original 1941 sales catalog, VERY NICE. Find that in your local antique store!

Again, thanks to all.

Gary,
To find these two pages on NostalgiaAir, scroll down through the Airline listings and select model 04BR-729A. This will open up Riders page 12-41, which is the schematic and parts list for models 04BR-729A and 04BR-730A. These also apply to models 14BR-729A and 14BR-730A. To find page 12-42, modify the address in your address bar from "12-41" to "12-42". Not all these Riders pages are indexed in the menu, but selecting individual pages in this manner will reveal them. Wait about 30 seconds between searches or you might get a "Not Available" message.
