Philco Identification
2/7/2003 8:12:49 PMJim
Hi all,
I just purchased a Philco Cathedral without the model number affixed. Scanning pictures on the net I have come across two radios that look identical to the one I purchased, a model 52B and model 56. What is the difference in these two radios? From outward appearances they appear to be identical. Thanks for the help.

Hi Jim

What tubes are in your Philco? The 52 has 2-24, 35, 47 & 80. Didn't find a US made 56 although Canada lists both model numbers. Their radios are too new for a Cathedral.

Hi Norm,
The tubes in my Philco Cathedral are as follows. On the left side looking from the back the tube furthest back is a NU 24A, the next tube is a Philco, 35 over 51, the next tube is a NU 24A. On the right side looking from the back the tube furtherest away is a Radiotron C3-V and the tube closest is a Radiotron 47. On the paperwork inside the radio it states it is a Type 52. Does this mean a model 52? Thanks for the help.

Hi Jim

Your radio matches a Model 52. NU stands for National Union. 24A is a revised version of 24. 35/51 replaces a 35 or 51. Don't know what C3-V means. Not a number used in the US. An 80 tube has 4 pins and you should notice 2 sections inside.
