Hi. I have an antique Howard shortwave radio with phono. It is a floor model (looks like a coffe table). It has (3) channels: 550-1700; 2.4-7.0; and 7.0-22. The radio is marked model # 808. The phono is a flip up top. It has a shelf underneath for LPs. Wood appears to be Mohogany. Screened at the top of the glass dial is 208-310. It has a jensen 12" 8ohm speaker with bell painted gold # g12rt c3642 3j46 812. The corners of the cabinet have a vertical stripe relief patern carved into them. Any info on this unit. Or the speaker? I was thinking about pulling the speaker for a guitar amp. The radio works, the phono does not. Condition is excellent with the exception of some varnish scratches and one varnish marr about 1/2" dia on top face (from moving). Also let me know if you would like to see a photo. -Josef

Hi,
You are describing a 1941 "Chairside", and the speaker has a field winding. Unless you have something like a vintage Audiovox, that speaker is not going to work as well as you expect it might.

If you are looking for a good permanent magnent magnet 12 inch, Ebay is where I sold a vintage 12 inch jensen for far less than it should have sold for.
