Green Eye closing too much and overlapping
2/7/2003 12:52:59 AMBhedberg
Hello just got an adapter for a 1629 to replace a 6U5/6G5 green eye and having not had alot of experience with them I wonder why it is overlapping too much when tuned to a station. It used to close almost shut before and now it is closing and then going even farther and overlapping when tuned to a station. In the circuit for a green eye what do you change to adjust this. The radio is a Westinghouse 622. Thanx in advance..

Hi Bhedberg

A 6U5 eye closes with -22 volts on the AVC line. A 1629 only requires -8 volts. So it will close and overlap on strong stations.

You can correct for this. Pin #5 is you control element on a 1629. AVC connects to this pin. Make a voltage divider with high value resistors.

Removing the wire going to pin #5 and insert a 4.7 meg resistor in this line. Then connect a 2.2 meg resistor from pin #5 to pin #8. You may need to play with values to get it just right. Be sure to use high value reasistors so it doesn't affect AVC action.
