Is there a technique for calibrating radios that uses a "by ear" method or is the only way to use a frequency generator and inject the IF frequency etc to adjust the filters??? I live in an apartment and don't have a shop and would like to know if it is possible or if there is a technique out there that needs no outboard gear?? Thanx Brian

Hi Brian

You can align by ear but it will not be quite as accurate.

If aligning by ear do not start with IF transformers but rather osc & antenna trimmers. Set the osc trimmer so high end of band aligns close with the dial markings. Use antenna trimmer to peak up volume. If a radio has a padder adjust it for max volume at low end of the band.

Finally peak up IF Transformers for max volume. You can do this by ear or with a meter measuring for negative AVC voltage.
