Tube Radio: Multiple stations playing at same time!
1/24/2003 5:55:24 PMMatthew Stueber
I have a Kolster 20 radio which when tuned to my favorite oldies station is also getting the next station in the background. As I tune down to lower AM stations I don't have that problem. Do you know what causes two or more stations to play at the same time? Is it an easy fix.

Hi Matthew

Kolster 20 is a TRF (Tuned Radio Frequency) radio. It has several sections of RF tuning. With the tuning cap set toward the high end of the dial, open, peak sections.

You may not be able to completely eliminate station mixing. TRF radios have a wider frequency response than modern radios.

Hi,
One way you can minimize such interference is to put a "wave trap". Essentially it is an RF coil and tuning cap that connect from the antenna to ground. It is adjusted so that the interfering signal gets routed to gound, and this willat a minimum, reduce your station interference. I have used one effectively on TRF's and on crystal radios.
