You might try finding a manual for the military ZM30 / URM90 which I believe is similar (it was made by ESI at any rate).
Does it use a galvanometer for DC balance? I can't recall. If it works on AC but not DC, that might be a place to look.

It does use a galvanometer and also uses an internal 1khz/ac gen or internal DC/gen. I have found instruction for the basic functions and it also has a diagram of what the unit looks like if you would like to see. It is (http://tpub.com/neets/book16/69e.htm). This unit also has a factory NiCad battery/recharge circuit modification installed in the battery compartment.
