Westinghouse Pop when heating up
1/10/2003 12:02:38 PMBhedberg
I have a table top Westinghouse that when I first turn it on and it's warming up, the speaker pops once faintly? Then the sound comes on. I just wonder is this normal and is there any way to improve this so it doesn't pop or any components that could be changed? It is the original electro magnetic speaker. Other than that it works fine. None of my other radios speakers pop when I they are warming up. The radio is a table top model. Not AC-DC.

Hi Bhedberg

I usually find a defective tube when this happens. If you have a tube tester monitor the output while they are heating.

The cathode connection breaks away in a tube. As the filament heats it causes metal to expand which finally makes contact. Sometimes you will be able to see the break with a magnifing glass.
