Speaker choke impedance

Hi, a choke resistance of +40 Mohms is really open? I removed the speaker from my Marconi 156. I checked output transformer and choke. The choke resistance is very high. If choke is bad, the speaker is bad too? Can I only replace the choke by a new one (like new Hammond) but still use the original speaker and output transformer?

Thank you for all your help (Norm!)!!

Hi J-F

If the choke is a coil on your speaker it also provides a magnetic field. Your speaker requires a magenitic field for proper operation.

Up until recently we told people to replace the speaker with a permanent magnet type. Now there might be another solution. Very strong magnets are available. Mounting one of these magnets near the center core of the speaker can make it work.

Try just replacing the speaker field (choke) and using a strong magnet.
