I am not familiar with your Telefunken, but here are a few general suggestions: For your motor bearings, lubricate with oil only. Apply a drop or two to each bearing--do not over-oil, too much is as bad as too little. SAE 20 oil is the best choice. This is marketed by 3-in-1 in a blue and white container as "Electric Motor Oil". If you can't locate this, 10W30 automobile oil will be a close substitute.
For any gears or toothed wheels, use a light grease such as Lubriplate or Phonolube. Clean any rubber wheels with a commercial rubber platen cleaner (available at office supply stores) or isopropyl alcohol, and be sure to keep any traces or oil or grease from any rubber surfaces.

:I have a motor in my Telefunken Reel to Reel and it was getting really hot and someone said to take it apart and clean it because probably the reason it was overheating was due to dried greas in the spindle. So now it is cleaned but having not that much experience with electric motors, am I suposed to use Oil or Grease? Also where exacly am I supposed to put it,, inside where the large round piece turns inside the transformer? or on the bearings or both? bhedberg21@hotmail.com
