Telefunken Magnetephone 97 Reel to Reel Motor Hot!!!

My telefunken motor is getting really hot in my Telefunken Magnetophone 97 Reel to Reel. I just wondered if the motor is going or if there is a component that could cause this? It gets burning Hot, I can smell it and barely touch it! Anyone have the schematic??

I forgot the Motor is the fan also on one side, the other goes to a spindle with a rubber nub that has the belt around it. It is fairly hard to turn when unplugged. Question, should they ever be greased? In the bearings maybe it is trying too hard to spin??

Hello

The motor shouldn't get so hot. In the early machines, the time you were allowed to spool was limited, as the motor was supplied with "overvoltage". But the Magnetophon 9x's are newer than the mentioned ones. I think you have a problem with hardened grease. These motors are usually short circuit rotor types and should move freely. Try to disassemble, clean and relubrificate it.

Kind regards, Walter Haring, Switzerland

That might be why it wasn't working to begin with and then after a while it started spinning. I will try what you say... B
