Radiola 33

I am "fixing" to fire this thing up if I get the nerve. Mr Bergstom at William@webtubes.com replaced the 171A tube that I ordered from him at no charge. He is a real gentleman. Will a 6 ohm speaker on this radio for a test?? I have a bunch of those speakers that I took out of old Motorola Quasar TV's. If not, where can I buy an appropriate speaker, or what should I use?? Bill

:Bill, You need a high impediance speaker or headphones. About 2,000 ohms. Or your 6 ohm speaker connected with an output transformer. Your 6 ohm speaker will just appear as a short to the output stage. It should not hurt anything however as the #33 uses an output coupling capacitor and choke.

Dan, I guess what you are saying is that the plate load is about 2K on the old Radiola 33, and to match the 6 ohm impedance you need an audio output xfmr??? I may have an old audio output xfmr around here somewhere. Does the Radiola Speaker, I think it is a 100 B, have an impedance of 2K, or do they have audio xfmr? I know that I am going to put about a 2 amp line fuse in the radio before I energize. Thanks so, much for your help. Bill
