Crosley 555 dual ganged potentiometer...what value??????
9/3/1999 1:12:28 PMTom Buss
Need to know what the value is on the dual ganged pot on the Crosley 555 mini tombstone radio. The carbon has worn off the original, and I have no way of knowing what the original value was. It is NOT on the Rider's schematic. I need someone very knowledgeable on these circuits to come up with a value. Would be most appreciative. Tom Also, the wire to the 6A8 nipple is crumbling...what IS that stuff? What do I used to replace it??

Hi Tom, If you don't get a definite answer those volume control sections would be about 500 k.ohm. Anything up to 1M should work fine, they're just signal controls, not effecting the DC operating points. It sounds like you're describing the cotton covered rubber insulated wire and the rubber has perrished for the 6A8 grid lead. Modern plastic covered wire will work fine but you should be able to find some woven covered wire that looks more original. Antique Electronic Supply stock such wire. Hope this helps, Good Luck, Don Black.
