Zenith Model 7H920 Schematic, Boomy Bass
12/23/2002 7:47:42 PMLarry Rickard
Is there any way to get a schematic for a Zenith model 7H920, chassis 7F01? I've searched the Rider's online index and can't find it. It is an AM/FM bakelite, similar to (but earlier than) a model H725, with the following tube lineup: (1)12AT7, (3) 12BA6, (1) 12AU6, (1) 19T8, and (1) 35B5.
Aside from the need for a schematic, The set I'm fixing has too much bass. When playing even at moderate volume, the speaker cone's excursion is so great that the audio is distorted. The set's reception is good, and there is adequate volume. I have even experimented with different tubes, to no avail. I would appreciate anyone's help and wisdom on this.

Thanks,
Larry Rickard

Hi Larry,
A schematic and service data for your Zenith model 7H920 is covered in SAMS Photofact #77-13, published in 1949. You may be able to find a copy at a local public library, or you can purchase a copy direct from the Howard W. Sams Co. or from one of the several online sources who sell used copies of SAMS Photofacts.

As to the boomy bass, you might experiment with different values of the audio coupling capacitor. The higher its mF value, the more high-frequency is blocked from the audio output. Therefore using a cap of lower value will increase your high-frequency response, thus lowering your bass response.
