price for Majestic radio

My wife's Grandfather has 2 old Majestic radios. One is
a model 90 and the other a model 90B. He said one was made
in 1924. One of them does not work, it blows a tube. I
don't know if the other one works or not. How much are
these radios worth? I think the cabinets are in pretty
good shape but there is a tear in the cloth over the speakers.
Where can I get some information about fixing ro restoring
these radios.
Thanks.

Hi Mark

Both of the Majestics are built in 1929 and have about the same circuitry. You should be able to compare one against the other. They are very heavy.

Blowing a tube is most likely caused by shorted filter caps. It would be a good idea to change these caps in both radios as they go bad in time.

To work on the radio you will need at least a meter and soldering iron. I can send you the schematic. Study it and post your questions.

Collectors guide to Antique Radios Vol 34 shows the radios as being worth $115.00 - $135.00. An antique store would probably ask $400.00 for a working radio.

I am an AF avionics technician that has been handed a small project from an elder couple from church. It is believed that something in the power unit failed after a lightning storm. This radio has been in the family for two generations and is going on to the third, but dad wants it working before it goes to its new home.

can you pass me the schematic. I am responsibile for the electronics and he is doing the cabinet.

Thanks
Don

I just found a majestic radio at a garage sale and i am looking for the year and possible price. It is Majestic Radio & Television Corp. and the model # is 7C75. It also states Chasis 435 on the label. Do you know where I could find an original picture of it in order to restore it?

Thanks for your help!!

Mark,
I did a restoration (electrical only) on my grandfather's Majestic 90B a couple years ago including a rewind of the field coil. Most online search info will be under Grigsby Grunow, not Majestic. I have many .jpgs taken during the restore, and notes which I'll share via email.

Marv,

I have one also. The cabinet restored very good after a new veneer top. Mine just hums and I can't locate the problem. I would like to see how yours turned out.

TF,
Contact me by email at mavlusone@yahoo.com. I have a lot of .jpg's, and info that may be useful.

Mark,
I did a restoration on my Grandfather's Majestic 90B a couple years ago, and will gladly share my experience. I had to open a can with 3 condensers in it, and replace one. Rewound the speaker field coil and patched the 45's cathode resistor. I have many .jpg's by email if you desire them.
