Hello, I have an aero vox cap that has no value on it except the patent number on it. The number on it is 1650395. It is long rectangular flat brown and what seems to be bakelite with two round ring terminals coming out of the end of it. The cap also has holes in it at the ends.....for mounting?

Any chance that you have any color coded info on the unit.....or have you viewed the bottom side of the
unit, in case it is mounted against the chassis.?

Sean,
If you have access to a good capacitor tester (and everyone should), you can measure the value. Often, even when they are leaky/bad, a tester will tell you what the value is. I use one, and have often tested bad capacitors and found the rating to be what is shown by the markings. No guarantee but more often than not.
There are a lot of capacitor testers out there from very cheap to bring a wheelbarrow of cash. many of the old tuning eye tube versions may not accurate or dependable enough for me. That is just a personal opinion and I am sure someone will argue the point.
Sencore digitals are really nice = $$$. I use a B&K 801 which has an analog meter. It appears to be very accurate and more reasonably priced.

:I have a shadio rack(radio shack) multi meter that tests caps. In order to get the squealing out of the radio I had to increase the value of this cap from 250 pf to 800 pf. So I don't know if the cap is bad or the tester is off(It is new, but shadio rack brand, not sure about the accuracy of the meter)
