Hi, I just got a Canadian Westinghouse 622 and I notice that the rectifier and the power tube have been substituted. I wanted your opinions. The 5Z4 is now a 5Y3 and the 6F6 is now a 6L6GT is this OK are these tubes OK substitutions or should I change the back to the original? Thanx Brian

Hi Brian

A 5Y3 will give slightly lower B+ voltage than 5Z4 but it doesn't arc over as easily. I would leave it in the radio.

6L6 draws more heater and B+ current than 6V6. It's a good substitute as long as the power transformer doesn't overheat. If you can touch the power transformer after 30 minutes of operation it's ok. The transformer will be very warm but shouldn't burn your hand.

6F6 is between 6V6 & 6L6 for heater current.
