Hello Mark, Your Philco radio was made by.. the Philco radio company. It started life in 1892 making arc carbons, then switched to storage battery production. As technology advanced they started making battery eliminator power suplies and then radio receivers and later TVs. For a comprehensive history, search for "Philco Radio History" with a google search on the internet but for staters try here http://www.philcoradio.com/history.htm . If you can post a model number of your set, we can give a lot more information. Philco made good quality sets generally. If you can't find a model number, give a description, frequency bands (short wave?), tube numbers, etc. Do you need schematics and help to service your set? If the set has been unused for a long time, don't try to power it up until it's checked. They can develop simple faults that can cause shorts and serious damage if not fixed before switching on.
Don Black.
