Philco 40-135 Tube Question
11/17/2002 3:20:01 PMMark Sowles
I've got a Philco 40-135, Code 121.

My question is this: the tubes all have metal bases. I've been looking around. Can a 7C7, that goes in this radio, be found in both metal and plastic bases? I've found sources for 7C7s, but before I buy them, I want to ensure they are metal bases. Is this a concern I should have, or are all tubes in that particular model specifically metal bases?

thanks for your quick reply.

The 7C7 is a Loctal tube. All Loctal tubes have metal bases. These tubes all have the first number= 7 for 6.3V filaments. The number 14 denotes a 12.6V filament.

Thanks, Ken. I'm trying to restore an old radio for my father-in-law, so this is all pretty new to me. Do you have an idea what teh Code 121 stands for?

Hi Mark,
I have a 40-130 I reworked and turned out all of my tubes were shorted (this radio has same tubes as 40-135). I did a search on Ebay and a guy was selling 5 new old stock loctal tubes. They were five of the six I needed, so I emailed him and asked if he had the sixth. He did and he also had more than one of each tube. To make a long story short, I got 2 complete sets of NOS tubes for under $20. Also you can use the tube substitution page on this site or go here:
http://www.nj7p.org/cgi-bin/tube?tube=7a8
to find substitute tubes.
