Merola is probably an early speaker supplied to Crosley, or was the output transformer manufacturer. Rider only indicates "output" and "output transformer".
:Crosley model 706, schem makes reference to a "Mershon condenser"
:and what appears to be an input or an output to "Merola"
:Anyone familiar with these terms.
:Hi,
:Mershon was just a manufacturer of capacitors, the schematic indicates it as a 2 section filter capacitor. I removed one from a radio to display because it looked impressive, and there was no way I could have rebuilt this one.

A 1mfd @ 450 volt electrolytic for each section should be adequate, but if the audio is lacking after the swap, I would increase the total capacity to 2mfd. The efficiencies of the new style caps more than make up for the losses encountered in the old caps- even when they were new.
Digi-key carries them, and they are inexpensive in bulk www.digikey.com
:Thanks for the info.
:From the configuration, it looks like the original
:value of the caps might be 1 or 2 mfd @ 350v or so.
:Sound about right?
