Driver transformer

Hi,

Just started on this set, while checking major componets located open winding on the driver transformer from plates of 6C5's. I used resistor and cap as temp to check out set and plays OK.
The set is RCA C11-3 Riders 6-115, would AES part # P-T156 work as replacement. Checked in trans manual and list 3.1 ratio 70K-7.7K for circuits using 6C5's as audio and driver and 6F6's as outputs, can't find anything to meet those specs. Any ideas on what transformer to use would be appreciated.

Hi Bobby

There will be a lot of gain using P-T156. Too bad it can't be used in reverse but you need a center tapped secondary.

Here is the problem. Your radio has two 6C5 stages before the 6F6's giving a lot of gain. The original transformer was 3:1 to reduce gain while PT156 is 1:3, increases gain.

You could use P-T124E but it is more expensive. This transformer has a center tap on primary & secondary which makes it usable in either direction.
