Hello out there, I am new at this whole computer thing so here goes, I have a small radio collection here in Pa about 21 so far I think, I need to recount them, anyhow I just got a Philco model 42-380 code 121 it is in fairly good shape, no water damage, the chassis and its parts are all there and org. except the filter caps. It is missing two push buttons, they measure 9/16 by 7/16 and are 3/4" deep , the grill cloth has a small tear in it, I located the buttons from Larry Bordo? But I need a piece of grill cloth that is 15" by 24" it looks like burlap but with a finer weave and no fuzz its brownish gold in color and has no fancy pattern in the weave, can anyone tell me where I can get a piece that is the same ? Ant. Elec. does not have anything that looks like it in their new catalog. also it looks like the dowel rod on top of the rotateable loop antenna has been modified, can anyone send me a picture of that part inside of the cabnet so I can put it back the way it was ? Also there are gray rubber corners on the chassis and two of mine are missing can someone tell me where to find them or what they did to make some acceptable replacements ? If I could find some gray rubber I am sure I could make them if none are available . In my tube sub book it says a # 42 tube will work in place of a # 41 is there any change to the radios performance ? Better/worse ? and another sub is a 7B6 in place of a 7C6 will this change anything ? All of my tubes test good but I have the others and was wondering if they work ok at least in a pinch . any info will be a great help as I have back trouble and have had two operations so far so I can't sit at this computer for more than a half hour which makes searching the web a pain in the @!!! THANKS I can't wait to fire up this cool radio when I get it done !

Hi Paul

I'll add to your post to get it into November. You can use a 42 in place of 41 and 7B6 for 7C6. In both cases filament current is higher. Philco used very small power transformers in some radios. If you substitute tubes be sure your power transformer doesn't overheat.

Hi Paul, On my 42-380 I did use burlap purchased from a fabric shop. Used a heat gun on low setting to gently burn fuzz and dye to desired color, came out pretty close to original.
